To Diana, Charles whisper made her feel like her heart stopped for a moment, feeling the heat of the moment, she sharply gulped her saliva.

When the music stopped, she felt a rushing pressure of cold air over all the worm places Charles was touching when they were dancing, it made her a bit relieved to finally be able to breath properly.

Everyone bowed to their dance partner and scattered around the ballroom. However, Charles didn’t feel satisfied, he wanted to spend more time with Diana, so he mustered his courage and asked her for a stroll.

As a lady, she can't be left alone with a gentleman unaccompanied. So she went to her sister, telling her about Charles request. Margaret smirked and walked them towards the garden entrance, and to Diana's surprise, she intentionally left them alone to have some privet time, but of course she was in a near distance to keep an eye on them.

While strolling around, they decided to rest on one of the benches that was surrounding a fountain, it felt so relaxing smelling the salty scent.

But the peaceful moment was ruined when two nobles saw them.

“Isn’t that the greedy lady who would accept any marriage proposal as long she gets a huge dowry?” sneered one of them. Diana’s face paled.

“And that guy! he tried to kidnap a noble lady few weeks ago! What a jerk!” leered the other one.

Diana gasp and covered her mouth with her hands. Charles jumped from his seat and gave them a deadly stare, the two random man left the garden in a hurry, leaving the place to it previous silence. Charles shifted his gaze to meet the frightened lady’s eyes.

“That’s not me! I swear! It’s my younger brother they’re talking about!” he plead and explained with sweat drenching all over his face, horrified to be accused again for a crime he didn’t commit.

When he noticed Diana’s eyes turning into worried eyes, he slapped his forehead and sighed “I wish I can change him, but … after losing our mother … he just lost it”.

لم يكتفي شارلز بمراقصة الفاتنه، كان يشعر وكأن هذه اللحظة لن تتكرر، فاستجمع شجاعته وطلب من ديانا التنزة معه في الحديقة الخارجية.

ديانا تدرك أنه من غير الائق لآنسة غير متزوجة أن تختلي مع رجل لا تكن له أيت صلة قرابة، فتوجهة لأختها وأخبرتها بطلب شارلز. أبتسمت مارغريت ابتسامة ماكرة لسعادتها بسرعة جذب شقيقتها الصغيرة لشاب نبيل بوقت قياسي، واصطحبتهما إلى مدخل الحديقة، ثم تركتهم لوحدهم ليقضوا بعض من الوقت بمفردهم، وبالطبع كانت على مسافة قريبة منهم لتراقبهم. انحرجت ديانا من تصرف اختها ولكنها قررت أن تثق بها.

وبعد التنزة لبضع دقائق، قررا أن يجلسا على مقعد قريب من نافورة في وسط الحديقة، لم يكن يوجد أي أحد في الحديقة سواهما. كانت الحديقة كبيرة جداً، والممرات مليئة بالورد، ولكبر حجم شجيرات الزهور، سيشعر أي شخص وهو في الحديقة وكأنه في متاهة. كان يقع في مسامع شارلز وديانا صوت قطرات الماء من النافورة ممزوجة مع صوت الموسيقى الصادرة من قاعة الحفل، والرائحة الملحية التي تفوح من النافورة مع رائحة رحيق الورد عطر المكان.

ولكن هذه اللحظة الخيالية لم تدوم، لسوء حظهم، مر من خلفهما نبيلان، ووقعت على آذانهم همسات أولائك النبلاء

"أليست هذه الآنسة الطماعة التي ستقبل أي عرض زواج يأتي مع مهر غالي؟" همس أحدهم وهو يقهقه.

شحب لون وجة ديانا وهي مصدومة من تعليق الشاب.

"وهذا الرجل الذي حاول اختطاف سيدة نبيلة منذ أسابيع! ياله من وقح!" أضاف الآخر.

شهقت ديانا شهقة حادة وغطت فمها بيدها.

قفز شارلز من مقعده وهو يمرق على النبيلان بنظرة حادة تحتوي شرارة غضبة، وهرول الشابان مبتعدان عنهما ليحوم الهدوء مجدداً.

تلفت شارلز لتلتقي عيانه بعيون ديانا المذعورة، ومن التوتر تصبب جبينه عرقاً "أنهم يتحدثون عن أخي وليس أنا! أقسم لكِ!" شعر شارلز بالرعب لاتهامه مرة أخرى بجريمة لم يرتكبها، ، ثم صفع جبينه وتنهد قليلاً محاولاً التقليل من قلقة "أتمنى أن أغيره، لكن ... بعد أن فقدنا والدتنا ... تغير كثيراً".
